Soap

When making homemade soap and selling it to the public there is no requirement to have it tested by a governing body or neither do you need a licence to sell your soap and bath fizzes. Soap making, as a craft should be fun to do and satisfying when your customers return because they are happy with your product. Providing the date your soap was produced, the ingredients you have used and where you purchased them from, the date of the batches and the methodology you employed to create the finished product you can star your own soap business. The same principle applies when making bath fizzes. Soaps and bath fizzes these days are taking on an array of fragrances. From the ever faith full fragrance of lavender and roses to the more recent sophisticated fragrances like blackberry, ginger and basil and not forgetting lemon and grapefruit the list is endless. What can be more refreshing in the morning than using a refreshing lemon soap with that strong zesty smell or relaxing in the evening soaking in lavender and maybe mandarin and basin bath fizz. Long gone are the days when we go to our favourite shop and buy a boring square bar of soap, not that there’s anything wrong with a square bar of soap, but when you now see the various shapes, colours and fragrances it’s easy to see how bath time can now be a more luxurious and pampering experience turning our bathrooms at home into a mini spa. Add to that a few light candles, again, these now come in many shapes and colours and even change colour whilst burning, and you have an ideal setting at home to relax and chill out after a busy hectic day.

In many an english garden lies a very powerful plant, powerful in that its uses are huge, from soap making to bath bombs, to treating ailments and of course cooking and the name of this plant of such powers: lavender.

We buy millions of bars of lavender soap, millions of lavender fragranced bath bombs and fizzies. The claim of this powerful plant is that it has soothing, calming and sleep inducing properties that is recommended all over the world by billions of people.

Apart from the obvious soap and bath bombs what else does this power plant have going for it? Well, french chefs cook with it to add an elegant flavour to their exquisite dishes.

The oil from this plant is extracted by steam distillation. Its flowers have been used for centuries to make those still oh so popular lavender cushions and of course the flowers can be dried, still maintaining it’s powerful fragrance and producing the most loveliest, soothing and attractive flower display.

We cannot forget or not include its other invaluable qualities, such as, it helps urine flow and so helps sufferers of cystitis.

Skin care – as it contains anti-fungal and antiseptic qualities, it is used for wounds, cuts, acne and various other skin disorders. Lavender oil has also been known to help reduce blood pressure and to enhance the blood circulation in the body.

These are just a few of the many, many qualities this powerful plant has, so the next time you pass by one in your garden, look at it and just think just how powerful this Lavender plant really is and how beautiful it is.

There are currently many articles being written about soap and its ingredients – the content being the additives used in soap by the manufacturer.

We would all hope that a simple bar of soap for washing our hands and bodies etc would not only be safe to use but also that it was not going to start allergies, especially in our children. This however, is not the case, it seems that many of us, including children are being exposed to additives in soap that can trigger allergies.

So what is the answer? Well for a start we need to read our packaging and be certain that any additives that are in our soaps are actually things we understand and know something about – or at the very least the person selling the soap can answer our questions.

Then if all else fails, buy natural soap and insist on the manufacturer providing the ingredients that is in the soap. Mainly the components are vegetable oil, olive oil, water and caustic soda, and before you all scream about caustic soda, all soap is cured for at least 6 weeks, if not longer, so this ingredient is safe to use on your skin.

With natural base oils for added fragrance, this is all that is needed for your perfect soap. I know from personal experience that these soaps are readily available for us to buy so none of us are deprived from our lovely bar of soap.

Why not take a look at the Infinity Crafts range of natural soap slices to see if something takes your fancy?

Thanks for reading – Wendy.

Whether you are 16 or 60, a few hours of uninterrupted pampering at bathtime is something we all deserve or at least long for, no matter what your path in life is. Lit candles flickering, our favourite soap or maybe a bath bomb or two with a delightful fragrance and a lovely glass of your favourite wine.

It doesn’t take much after the stresses and strains of our daily life to have some de-stress time and to give our bodies that extra special reward it needs. The warm fragranced water after the bath bombs have finished their fizzing along with the pleasant aroma of that special fragrance that the manufacturers say is so good for our senses and wellbeing. Soft music playing in the background for extra special touch and also adds to the ambience of the night.

So there you have it, your own special spa night. It’s not costing an arm and a leg and it’s something that makes us feel special, relaxed and rejovinated. Natural soaps these days are added only with finest ingredients, including aromatherapy oils or fragrances.

Many soaps also have the added bonus of having only the very finest Mediterranean olive oils added to ensure your skin only receives the very best moisturiser – let’s face it when have you ever seen anyone from the med with bad skin?! Infinity by Wendy Levine uses such olive oils in the making of aromatherapy soaps so you can be sure that your skin is being pampered by the very best.

Thanks for reading,
